This actually does work with the naked eye as well, although not as clearly. If you pick the low E strong of a guitar and then run the length of the string by moving just your eyes, you can pick up the wave motion of the string. I was fascinated by this with my first guitar when I was about 11. 😀 must admit a camera picks it up very nicely though.
