Cast of Glee has more songs chart than the Beatles? ?? But … .
OK, a lot of the “sold more” records have to be attributed to greater number of people on the planet. Bigger market. But more songs charting … than the Beatles? They had 21 #1s alone, right? Or some number on that order is on the Ones album. How could … . Ah, never mind. Too many other depressing imponderables in the world, I’m not going to add that one to my list.

No, not worth the energy. By the way, the Beatles’ “1” album, which contains 27 tracks, isn’t a good gauge of how many times they topped the charts in the US since several of its songs (“Day Tripper”, “Yellow Submarine”, “Eleanor Rigby”, “Lady Madonna”, “The Ballad of John and Yoko”, “Something”) weren’t actual number ones in America. In fact, “From Me to You” didn’t even crack the top 40 here. Now, the album’s title is still valid because all 27 of those songs were number ones either in the US OR the UK…except, surprisingly, “Something”, which was only #1 in Canada, Australia and Germany.
There are many ways to try to judge who had the greatest chart success. For the record, the Beatles had 20 #1 songs in America, topping everyone, even Elvis (18). But when it comes to total hits charted, Elvis’ 165 leaves everyone in his dust. James Brown is second with 107, and the Beatles are only number six, with 75. So that one’s all about longevity. The Beatles’ star burned brightest, but all too briefly.

The Glee phenomenon is just so huge right now that it seems every episode spawns a single that charts. But most of those songs don’t get anywhere near the upper reaches of the chart.
