Sam Phillips: “Same Changes” (1994)

Late-period Beatles were an apparent touchstone on Phillips’ 1994 Martinis & Bikinis album, with strong hooks, a jangle-pop sound and guitar parts supplied by producer and husband T-Bone Burnett.

Sam Phillips: “I Need Love” (1994)

Sam Phillips started out making power pop, then morphed sometime subsequent to this album into a singer with a sparer, artsier sound. I do prefer the power pop phase, especially this one.
